Intermediate RiderCourse® (IRC)

Intermediate RiderCourse® (IRC)

The Intermediate RiderCourse® (IRC) is a one day refresher course and is a continuation of the Basic RiderCourse® (BRC). The IRC is designed for riders who were unsuccessful in the skills test of the BRC within the past 12 months or anyone who successfully completed the BRC anytime in the past. There is no classroom portion in the IRC, the entire class is spent riding on the motorcycles.

Students take a riding evaluation as part of the course. Students who complete the course and pass the riding evaluation receive a completion card which will allow you to add a motorcycle endorsement to your license with no further testing at the NH DMV. Non-NH residents will receive a Motorcycle Safety Foundation completion card and should verify with their home state DMV if it is accepted.

Motorcycles are provided. Students are responsible for providing the following protective clothing: eye protection, full fingered gloves, sturdy footwear that completely covers the ankles, long sturdy pants and a long sleeve top such as a jacket or sturdy shirt. Students may bring their own DOT approved 3/4 or full face helmet or use one of our loaner helmets which are available at each course.

Students who do not arrive on time for any portion of the course will not be allowed to continue, and will not be refunded.

Intermediate RiderCourse® Highlights

  • Course graduates are exempt from the DMV written and skills tests (Non-NH residents should verify this with their home state DMV).
  • A motorcycle learner's permit is not required.
  • Motorcycles and helmets are provided.
  • Courses will run, rain or shine.

Enrollment Requirements

To enroll in an IRC, students must have either completed a Basic RiderCourse® within the past 12 months but were unsuccessful in the skills test, or successfully completed a BRC at anytime in the past. If you completed the BRC outside of the NH MRT program, proof of course completion is required.

Individuals under the age of 18 must have a valid driver license and a Motorcycle Safety Course Waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

Once I Pass the Course…

Students will have a riding evaluation during the course. If the student passes this evaluation, he or she will receive a New Hampshire Motorcycle Rider Training Program completion card. The student can take that completion card to the NH DMV within one year and receive a motorcycle endorsement on their driver license. Non-NH residents will receive a Motorcycle Safety Foundation completion card and should verify with their home state DMV if it is accepted.

If I am unsuccessful…

Many students choose to take the IRC multiple times. As long as the student remains eligible for the class and does not present a hazard on the range he or she can repeat the class. Students who require extensive additional practice are recommended to take the Basic Rider Course again.
